recent technique tests

A paper-cutting of one of my color darkroom photographs, originally shot with a holga.

A paper-cutting in handmade abaca paper of an image of the synaptic nerve in the brain.

A test with handmade overbeaten abaca, with inclusions of thin plastic strips making up a sound wave of my voice stuttering. I am really excited about this one!

I love you, Brian Dettmer.

My friend Lili Hall of Lili's Bookbinding Blog found this video on another incredible blog with images of some of the best people currently working with altered books. Definitely check out both sources - you won't regret it.

And now for the video interview with perhaps my favorite working artist, Brian Dettmer.

A Humument

Here's an example of the teacher learning from the student. One of my students turned me on to the existence of this magnificent altered artist book, made by Tom Phillips from 1970 to 1975. Named A Humument in reference to the original name of the book, A Human Document. Below are a couple of selected pages. Click to view a gallery of the rest.
